Enchanting Special Original Exclusive Heritage Stone Cottage Located In Most Sought After Trendy Historical Suburb

Built in 1869, being one of very few original stone cottages built in Tamboerskloof, is located in historical Military Road erf 69, the latter number depicting it having been the 69th  home registered in Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa. Military Road, at the turn of the nineteenth century was used as an ammunition base by the British Soldiers,  thus its name. The home is a classified heritage one and to become so listed it has

to have the following qualifications: Be unique, historically important or have architecture worth preserving. It most certainly conforms and  abides with all three stipulations.

The name ''Tamboerskloof'' is derived from the Afrikaans words for drum ''tamboer'' and valley ''kloof.'' When the Dutch settlers arrived and set up farms in the 1650s, they established the first of a series of lookout points at the site where Tamboerskloof lies today. From these lookout points, watchmen would beat drums to alert farmers in the area to the approach of a ship. Thanks to this, farmers would know that it was time to make their way to Cape Town harbour for their crops.
